Is there a song you heard and think I could listen to this song every day and it would still me make as happy today as it will in four years? By adding a playlist to book I am sharing the songs I listened to endlessly while writing the book. I love words and music has to have words for me. I will never be a classical music lover because I think it is missing the heart and soul of the song.
I absolutely love music and how it relates to memories. The songs in my playlist are important to my book because they say a lot about where the character is in their life. When I write, I gravitate to certain songs and sometimes they have nothing to do with the book but speak to character in the book.
I have so much respect for song writers because as an author we have 300-500 pages to tell our story. The author of a song has one page. That is not a lot of space to tell a story and emanate enough emotion to make the listener want to listen to it again. I had to write a song for my second book and it was so hard. It took me months to rework it to point I was happy with it.
My second book is about a musician, that uses lyrics to do the talking from his soul. Each chapter is the name of a song. I love music and I want you to hear a song and say that reminds me of that book…!
I just finished my third book and have started to write my fourth and I am expanding my music into genres I would never have listened to before. My characters in my third book love country so I found myself asking my sons and friends for their favorites. I have been a rock chick my whole life and I am now officially a lover of country music too.
One day I would love to write a whole book surrounding one single song. I think it would be such an incredible challenge. Usually I don’t watch the official music video because then it changes what it means to me. Although when they make a mini movie out of a song I love it.
