Launch – Note from the Author

I’m excited to share with readers my fifth Love Inspired Historical, which is also the first in a three book series set in and around Sheridan, Wyoming in the late 1890s and early 1900s. This particular story was fun to write because I was able to give a nod to my love of England through my British hero Edward and give my smart, no-nonsense heroine Maggy an unusual profession as a female Pinkerton agent…Happy Reading! — Stacy

Janice’s Book Reviews – Review

“I fell in love with the main characters and descriptions of the scenes were very vivid. . . . This is my first book by Stacy Henrie, I will definitely have to read more of her books. I really enjoyed this book.”

Heidi Reads… – Review

“I always love how Stacy Henrie’s books transport me to the setting with rich historical details. The characters really came to life against the backdrop the author set and while it’s a relatively quick read, that’s partly because I couldn’t put it down! . . . Loved the sweet romance and fascinating history!”

Teatime and Books – Excerpt

“You are going to ruin this investigation,” she hissed. “Could you have looked any more appalled at playing the role of my fiancé?”

“Are you mad?” Edward countered, keeping his voice equally low. “Of course I’m going to be shocked and downright annoyed when you announce such a ridiculous fiction.”

Maggy crossed her arms and glared at him. Her eyes had turned a dark cobalt. “There wasn’t time to ask how you felt about it. Besides I told you that I was coming up with a role.”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement is a fabulous historical that should not be missed. I had it read in just a few hours and it was time well spent. I highly recommend this for those who love a good, sweet, clean, heartwarming book that, also, has a touch of mystery and suspense. A well deserved 5 plus stars.”

The Power of Words – Review

“Stacy Henrie brings something intangible to every story that she writes; she just has a special touch that’s hard to define. All the details that I love are present in The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement – character depth, historical detail, humor, romantic tension. And then there’s the emotional tug that comes from characters who don’t seem fictional at all, but easily identifiable people who face similar struggles as we might, only in a different setting. While I’ve enjoyed all that I’ve read by this author, this book holds a special place in my heart.”

Paulette’s Papers – Excerpt

Unpinning her hat, Maggy used it to fan her flushed face. She shut her eyes and willed herself to breathe through the pressure in her chest. She was safe—no one was going to harm her ever again. Especially not a man. Detective skills weren’t the only things she’d learned in the last six years; she’d also learned how to take care of herself.

SilverWoodSketches – Review

“I was surprised by the depth and sincerity of Henrie’s writing. In such a light genre, many inspirational authors shy away from the grittier aspects of the time period. Henrie handles both the bad and ugly with honesty and a deeper message of hope. As Maddy slowly watches the way Edward weaves his faith through his daily life, Henrie also urges us to “see His hand in everything.” The impact of Edward’s faith in God and in Maddy, as she unravels the mystery is more than empowering, it’s a reminder of the true meaning of redeeming love.”

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – Review

“The romance is sweet and tender and very believable and the setting is hot, dusty, and perfect for the times. I couldn’t put it down and was swept away for a time, which was completely fine with me. If you love historical mystery romances, dime novels, and mysteries, this one is for you.”

Books n BaublesReview & Character Interview

“I couldn’t put the book down, the story kept me on my toes….just when I thought I knew what was going on things changed slightly and I started second guessing my thoughts. It really is a great story I highly recommend you read it!”

Q: What was your first impression of Edward?
A: Ha! Stubborn and reserved, for sure. But also handsome and kind to his staff.

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

“Peppered with humor and gentle truth, The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement is a great read from start to finish! Henrie’s sense of timing shines, as well as her ability to create dimensional characters who quickly feel like dear friends. The friendship-turned-romance is swoony and sweet, and the suspense gives the plot purpose without overpowering it. Stacy Henrie’s novels are always wonderfully enjoyable, and this one is no exception!”

Faithfully Bookish – Excerpt

“Are you always this obstinate, Mr. Kent?” Maggy asked, jerking his thoughts back to the unpleasant scene unfolding on his porch.

She was accusing him of obstinacy? He climbed the steps in an effort to keep her from barging her way inside. An action he wouldn’t put past her. “Are you always this persistent?”

Her eyes brightened with amusement. “I wouldn’t be one of Pinkertons best detectives if I weren’t.”

Cafinated Reads – Review

“I loved this book! It’s a quick, captivating read and I loved the writing style of Ms. Henrie. She has a beautiful way of pulling the reader into the heart of the story instantly and making them feel apart of the whirlwind of fun. I loved Edward and Maggy’s characters. They were perfectly chiseled and true-to-life.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

His unexpected show of confidence in her abilities to come up with a solid cover story brought her earlier idea forward at last, in full form. “I’m Maggy. Edward’s fiancée,” she finished with a triumphant smile. “Isn’t that right, darling?”

Turning toward him, Maggy only had a moment to register the shock in Edward’s gray eyes before his mouthful of tea came spewing out—all over her.

Remembrancy – Review

“A feisty, capable and determined detective—who happens to be female—and a British transplant to Wyoming intent on proving his worth as a rancher combine for a delightful read…

With memorable characters and plenty of culprits, this book is a suspenseful, yet delightful, read.”

I Am A Reader – Excerpt

“Fine.” Edward let his shoulders slump. “I won’t get into fisticuffs with Howe.”

One corner of Maggy’s mouth lifted. “You would get into fisticuffs for me?”

He sensed she meant it in a teasing way, but he couldn’t bring himself to jest about something he felt strongly about. “Yes, Maggy.” He placed his hand over hers where it still rested near his heart—just as it had the other day when they’d stumbled into each other. “I would.”

Among the Reads – Review

“I’m always so glad to find new authors I like. Stacy Henrie is now on my “buy as soon as it is released list”. The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement was a great story with mystery, romance, and life lessons about the love of God.”

Tell Tale Book Reviews – Review

“The Rancher’s Temporary Engagement was just like its predecessors, a truly fun read with delightfully generous amounts of romance and danger. And the overarching theme that each person is of value is an important reminder to every person who has ever doubted their own worth…which is probably every single one of us.”

Bookworm Nation – Excerpt

Stepping in front of him, she gripped his face between her palms. The heat of the fire baked her back, but she wouldn’t give up on Edward, not without a fight. And a fight could well be the result of what she was about to do.

She tipped his head toward her. Then, ignoring the steely quality in his gray eyes, she pressed her lips firmly to his. His jaw stiffened briefly beneath her hands, but Maggy didn’t let it deter her. She poured all the fears and joys she’d experienced over the last month into her kiss.

For the Love of Books – Review

“I really enjoyed this story! I loved the characters, the story line, the dialogue, Stacy’s writing style. It was all done beautifully.”

Can You Really Find Love on the Job?

My husband and I met while working at a private high school. He taught math while coaching football and baseball. I taught chemistry and coached cross country and track.

We might never have talked outside of polite conversation at staff meetings, except for the fact we had a handful of matchmaking students in common. Have you ever been around hormonal teenagers especially near Valentine’s Day? They latched onto the idea that the single teachers at the school really should get married and brought up not-so-subtle hints about every other week.

A raised hand and an out-of-the-blue question. “Do you like football?”  followed by a chorus of ooo’s when I nodded. A paper valentine on my desk signed by “Mr. Fick” (as if he wouldn’t use his first name). His players gave him a membership to a Christian dating site and presented it along with a photocopied, enlargement of my yearbook mug-shot.

We might have avoided their blatantly-embarrassing attempts…except the next year our schedules collided and we found ourselves alone in the teacher’s lounge at the same time every day and manners dictated that we actually converse. But when we were both tagged as chaperones on an overnight trip, our fellow teachers got involved. “Did you notice what a gentleman he is?” Why yes, I did.

Let’s just say the rest is history. After a whirlwind keep-it-hidden-from-our-students courtship, he popped the question. We invited all of our students to the wedding and the seniors on the football team served as ushers. I left teaching behind once we were expecting our first child and have since done my supporting from the sidelines. But I still remember those semi-private lunches in the teacher’s lounge and even chaperoning the homecoming banquet while hiding the fact we were on a date too.

Of course, you can’t fall in love with someone you don’t spend time with, which is why the workplace is just one of several places couples meet. Proximity is certainly a factor. Not to mention that some types of jobs imply shared values, interests, and perhaps even the same skill sets. Being part of a team or company working toward a common goal creates a sense of unity that can spill over into a friendship and then a potential relationship. And if you happen to be surrounded by matchmaking coworkers (or “customers”), then everyone leaves with a great story to tell.

In my latest novel, Focus On Love, the heroine was previously burned after dating an intern in her father’s business and then again when a backstage romance at the dinner theater fizzled away. By the time Ryan walks into the theater, she’s not sure what to think of the handsome photographer. But once they start working together, this third time might just become her picture-perfect love story.

What about you? Have you ever dated (or married) someone you met at work? Do you know someone else who has? How did it work out?  — Candee

Out of Character
by Molly Zenk
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Inspirational
238 pages

After the loss of her brother, actress Harmony Jones struggles with daily life. Landing the lead role on the hit faith based living history show, 1700s Life, might be the perfect way to reconnect with her faith and be her big acting break.

Tired of hiding his strong faith and convictions to get secular roles, David Hawkins jumps at the chance to play the curate on 1700s Life. It’s the perfect vehicle to spread God’s word.

Elliot Banes’ career needs an image makeover, so he accepts the naval hero role on 1700s Life. Getting away from his overbearing mother is an added bonus. His true hope is to learn to speak his mind instead of always fading into the background.

When a scripted love triangle between Harmony, David, and Elliot becomes a real life love triangle, Harmony must make a difficult decision. She hoped to find her wavering faith, she didn’t count on finding love as well. If that was her only obstacle, the role would be a breeze. Unfortunately, there’s an on-set spy intent on causing drama. Can Harmony see through all the lies and secrets to the truth in her heart, or will she end up falling for the wrong man?

MOLLY ZENK was born in Minnesota, grew up in Florida, lived briefly in Tennessee before finally settling in Colorado. She graduated from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL with degrees in Secondary Education, English, and Creative Writing. She is married to a Mathmatician/Software Engineer who complains about there not being enough “math” or info about him in her author bio. They live in Arvada, CO with their young daughters, 1 dog, and 1 cat.

Book Tour Grand Finale for
The Keeper of Her Heart
By Stacy Henri

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops

Launch – Note from the Author

There are some stories, some characters, which grab ahold of you and won’t let go. THE KEEPER OF HER HEART and its heroine Ada Thorne are just such a story and character for me. So it’s with much anticipation, that I share this book with readers…

The Power of Words – Review

“The Keeper of Her Heart has earned a special place in my heart. This well-written, poignant story is bittersweet and heartwarming at the same time. British settings are a favorite of mine, and historical detail of the World War I era is conveyed in a way that pulls you right into the story. . . . I thoroughly enjoyed The Keeper of Her Heart and look forward to more from Stacy Henrie.”

Backing Books – Excerpt

Desperation strangled Ada’s breath, making her light-headed. “If I am not to marry for love, then what is the purpose of such a union?”

“To maintain the life you have always known,” her father said, his voice rising again. “You will marry a man of good breeding and fortune who will see that you want for nothing.”

An image of a content and pampered lap dog came to her mind. No wonder she preferred horses and their strength and power to other creatures meant to sit silent and look lovely.

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – Review

“Stacy Henrie is a master at historical fiction, especially during the World Wars. In this offering, we are treated to the story of Ada, a young woman of class, in the early 1900s in England. . . . I found it fascinating and loved watching Stacy Henrie bring this time in history to life in a way that I never could have imagined.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

“It’s war, Ned.” Ada didn’t bother to disguise the pleading in her tone. “I don’t want to have to say goodbye; I don’t want you gone.”

“I don’t want to go,” he admitted in a low voice. His next words sent another shudder through her. “But if it’s right, Ada, I need to go.”

When he pulled her to him, she went. She shut her eyes and leaned into his touch. Was there anything she could say to persuade him differently? For the first time in their marriage, she suddenly understood what Ned had felt whenever he longed to protect her from something. That’s what she wanted to do in this moment—to protect him and herself.

Remembrancy – Review

“Through it all, this book weaves World War I history and life in London into the story. As readers follow Ada’s journey, her sprouting faith is encouraging in the midst of the challenges thrown out her. . . .Stacy Henrie’s newest book is a reminder of the One who gives hope in the midst of our darkest hours as well as second chances—at forgiveness, healing, and even love.”

underneath the covers – Excerpt

“Thank you, Minnie.” Ada rose from her chair. “Rosie and I are lucky to have you and Thomas and the children.”

Tears glittered in her friend’s eyes now. “We’re the lucky ones. And don’t you go forgettin’ it. ’Specially the next time you go disappearin’ into yourself. All right?”

“I won’t.” She offered Minnie a smile—and this time it wasn’t forced.

Wishful Endings – Review

“THE KEEPER OF HER HEART is a story of love, perseverance, friendship, and second chances. The characters are genuine and easy to relate to, while the story is touching. Fans of the genre will find much to love here! . . . I loved how the story pulled out my emotions. It was engaging, sweet, and inspiring. It’s one I definitely recommend!”

Paulette’s Papers – Excerpt

“What did your gran have to say?” Ned asked from behind.

Ada jumped to her feet, her back to him, and hurried to remove the evidence of her tears before he caught sight of them. She wouldn’t have Ned thinking they were tears of regret.

“She’s well. And what’s more”—Ada spun around, pasting on a bright smile—“she wishes us happiness here in London.”

Heidi Reads… – Review

“This book starts out mild and unassuming, then packs an emotional punch, and wraps up with the happy ending you didn’t think would happen. I slowly fell in love with each of the characters and their strength during times that become increasingly dangerous. . . . I loved the romance, the history, and the emotion in this unforgettable story!”

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“There is so much sadness and yet they keep pushing forward to find happiness again. Very uplifting. . . . I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy history and a good love story. It’s packed full of goodness!”

Teatime and Books – Excerpt

Deep down, though, a germ of fear attempted to sprout inside her. She’d never known deprivation or difficulty or hard work. But she was determined to see her decision through—she would prove that marrying for love wasn’t the swift path to misery and regret that her parents believed it to be. She loved Ned. And she trusted that his current employer, Hugh Whittington, would follow through on his promise to help find Ned a new job.

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

“The Keeper of Her Heart by Stacy Henrie is poignant and inspiring, the highs and lows of Ada’s life drawing the reader in wholeheartedly. The theme of God’s presence in times of joy as well as sorrow and fear walks hand-in-hand with Ada’s determined spirit and her compelling courage. Life doesn’t always work out the way we planned but in God’s hands we are held through it all.”

#Book #Promo…Fed Up!…#BookBoost #Memoir #Inspiration @Realitywrites30 @AAMBOOKCLUB

Fed Up chronicles the daily trials and tribulations of a young African American woman as she navigates the ins-and-outs of working for the United States Federal Government. Carol’s journey begins when she decides to the join the Air Force at the ripe young age of twenty-three. Three excruciating years later, she realizes the military wasn’t her cup of tea and decides to become a civil servant. Over the course of twelve years, Carol works for three federal agencies in several states. Her countless encounters with controlling, tomfoolery, and downright manipulative people turn her once perfect dream of rising to the top of her game as a federal employee to a recurring nightmare. When her frustrations reach a fever pitch, she finally decides enough is enough.

“Ok ladies. The best piece of advice I can give you is get out there and get involved. Don’t ever let a man tell you that a woman can’t do something. If they do, that’s when you prove him wrong by doing it. It’ll be like a kick in the nuts when he sees you excel.” Ok. She’s a bit of a feminist. Colonel Nolan continued to tell us how, as women, we need to strive for perfection and not to get bogged down by a society that’s controlled by men. This is too much for me! I just want to come to work and get paid.

Thirty minutes later, she finally changed the subject. “I have a really important event happening this weekend that I would love for both of you to participate in,” Colonel Nolan sounded like she was going to explode. Umm, I don’t know about this. My weekends are mine.

“Sure what is it?” Althea asked with a little too much enthusiasm.

“One of my many passions is participating in Civil War re-enactments. I have an authentic Confederate soldier uniform I purchased off eBay a few years back that fits me amazingly. I would need the two of you to help with the setup of the field.” Did she really just say she does Civil War reenactments as a Confederate soldier and wants two black women to participate in this mess? You’ve got to be kidding me?

“That sounds like fun. Count me in.” Althea exclaimed. Girl, you’re taking brown-nosing to a whole other level right now.

“I won’t be able to attend. I have plans this weekend,” I quickly said.

“I do them twice a year. Next time you can participate, Carol.” Ummm, that’s not a no, but a hell no. Guess what, Colonel Nolan? THE SOUTH LOST! How many times do you need to reenact that?

“What time do you need me there?” Althea asked.

“Well, I’m going to set up mid-morning on Friday. Come to my office around ten-thirty in some clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.” She’s doing this mess during duty hours? Rank does have its privileges.

They continued talking for a few more minutes before Althea said she needed to get back to her office.

“Nice meeting you, Carol,” she said as left the office.

“Carol, I would like to discuss what your duties are going to be. As a new lab officer, you should be familiar with what everyone does in the lab. With that being said I would like for you to do a rotation through each section of the lab.”

“Ok. I worked as a generalist in a small regional hospital before joining the military for about six months.”

“Ok. That’s good. It shouldn’t take you long to get through the sections.” Is she expecting me to run patient samples? No way, officers don’t do that. They shuffle papers all day.

Get to know Carol:

C.P. Henderson graduated from Angelo State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. While on active duty, in the United States Air Force, she earned a Master’s in Forensic Science. She was inspired to write Fed Up! after years of working with characters even Hollywood couldn’t dream up. C.P. and her husband currently reside in Austin, Texas, with their charismatic Cavachon, Steve.

1. What made me decide to sit down and actually write a book?

I had just quit the third job I’d had in two years. I couldn’t help but think there was a reason I’d encountered so many ‘interesting’ people in my career. While enjoying my new free time, shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation also contributed to my desire to write about my life. I saw the characters on those shows and thought I’ve worked with and for people way more ‘colourful‘ or unbelievable than them. I also felt like it would be therapeutic to sit down and write about my experiences.

2. How long did it take to write the Fed Up!?

I wrote the book backward, meaning I wrote the last chapter first. All of the characters’ personalities and emotions were still fresh and very raw. I was able to write the last chapter of the book in about a week and a half. So much emotion poured out of me as I typed away I could feel my anxiety creep up when certain memories were relived. So much so, I decided to take a few weeks off and let my emotions settle down. Once I got past the feelings of hurt and anger I was able to complete the first draft of the book in six weeks.

3. What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters?

A round of drinks. Just kidding. Most of the characters in my book I hope to never encounter again, but if I were to run into them, I’d thank them. Thank them for giving me the stories to tell others and make people laugh. Also, for helping me develop a tough skin. As I was working with these people I couldn’t believe some of the things that were said and done to be me on a daily basis, but when I look back I can’t help but laugh.

4. How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

Whenever I get an idea of interest I start writing. I have about four or five short story/novels in the works ranging from modern Biblically based short stories to romance fiction (experiences taken from my own life, yet fiction).

5. How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

Being a self-published author has given me a new appreciation for the entire writing process. Writers who are blessed to have agents and marketing teams really only have to concentrate on the writing itself. Self-publishing authors have to be and do everything for themselves. It took a lot of guts to put my story out there, to begin with, but having to talk and pretty much ‘brag’ about writing a novel was very overwhelming but rewarding. When I saw how people react to my work it motivated me to put myself out there even more.

6. Where do your ideas come from?

Most, if not all of, my ideas come from my life experiences. When I wrote my second novel, Illusion A Love Story, I took bits and pieces of things I’d experienced in previous romantic relationships and tied them together in a fictional story.

 7. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Staying focused. I have to set weekly goals for myself in order to stay on track. It’s easy to get sidetracked when you don’t have anyone breathing down your neck to meet a deadline.

Sixth U.S. president John Quincy Adams, a man who knew a lot about effective leadership, maintained that the most successful people were those whose actions inspired others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. These people were the ones who left the sidelines, entered the fray, and threw themselves into life. They were the ones who forged a nation and achieved the impossible. They were the ones who truly connected to life, to others, and to themselves.

Today, the world needs human connection more than ever. It needs people who strive for deeper relationships, not just surface recognition, who come at life with the enthusiasm, energy, and excitement that bind people together. These people have a powerful impact on all around them.

Leadership guru Art Coombs combines fresh perspectives, profound experience, engaging information, and unforgettable stories into a simple formula that will result in rich connections as you live, laugh, learn, love, and lead those who mean the most to you. When I think of love, I think of unselfish service for others. For me, the ultimate act of demonstrating love is to serve others. If that’s true, could being a servant and being a leader be the same? Yes! You can be a leader who serves and a servant who leads.

Wait a minute, you might be saying. The words servant and leader seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum—at least, that might be how you’ve always understood things. They might even be seen as conflicting with each other. But that’s the beauty of it: when two conflicting ideas, personalities, perspectives, or words come together, a compelling contradiction can be established.

In today’s world, love and leadership go hand in hand. Let me unapologetically say this loud and clear: you’ll never be a great leader without being loving, empathetic, and compassionate. You cannot have leadership without love or love without service. Leadership is love via service.

#Book #Review…The Parable of the Dumbass…#BookBoost #SundayMorning #Reading #Inspiration #Motivation

Each of us has a dream, and we all know how long, hard and tricky the path to achieving it can be. So, it may be wiser to not even start … However, some choose to give it a try. And they go because something pushes them not to give up when obstacles pop up: the examples of those who have made it. They’re there on TV, happy and smiling, exhibiting the reward for their sacrifices. They didn’t give up and they made it. So, it is possible to make it! Isn’t it?

For such a short story, it packs a huge punch!  Ouch!  This story resonates with me on so many levels because I’m that dumbass that dares to dream.  In this story, you have the dreamers, the believers, the faithful, the marchers, the quitters, the movers, the skeptics, and the ones that have self-doubt and eventually succumb to giving up.

I’ve been all those emotions plus some.  Think about the dreams you’ve had or still have.  How many of you have the balls to see your dream through?  Dreams can be achieved, but you must have faith.  And with faith, you must believe in the theory of your own success.  That’s what this story is all about.  Destination Eldorado.  Why Eldorado, well, readers, you’ll have to trust me on this one and read this short story about one’s test of wills, strength, faith and belief.  As a writer myself, I, more than most, truly get what Scotto di Carlo is talking about.  And, if you dare to dream, you too, will soon understand the impact of this story.

Mello & June gives The Parable of the Dumbass five faithful stars.  It’s an incredible story that deals with a sense of self and having the courage to see it through.  It’s so easy to give up, but hard to stay the course.  I have been to the land of Eldorado and I plan to revisit time and time again.  I thank the author for using this beautifully told story in a metaphoric type of way.  Simply awesome!

#Book #Promo…Keeping Your Grown…#BookBoost #BlackGirlsRock #Motivation #Inspiration @GlennTwins #SaturdayAfternoon #LastDaysOfSummer @AAMBOOKCLUB

Keeping Your Crown: The Black Woman’s Guide to Reclaiming Greatness is a call to action to challenge black women to live up to their full potential. Black women are strong, beautiful, astute and invaluable leaders worthy of the title “Queen.” This book insists that black women raise their personal standards and lead lives reflective of greatness. In particular, there are five specific areas black women should improve upon to advance their own lives and the state of Black America. These five areas include: managing our love lives, understanding men, strengthening our sisterhood, changing our views on single motherhood, and improving our self-image. Keeping Your Crown is an eye-opening book that forces black women to realize, they hold the power and potential of the black community in their hands. Keeping Your Crown encourages black women to live with purpose and intention and serve as positive agents of change within the black community.

In addition to the previously mentioned harmful effects children endure, single parent households are also threatening the institution of marriage and productive, loving relationships.  When women have children without the example of marriage, they are contributing to a generation of people who do not know how to love each other.  There’s an influx of children being raised without fathers and suffering from daddy issues.  These children grow into adults who have no clue how to love another person.  They unceasingly struggle to form loving partnerships.

Because positive examples of “black love” are rarely demonstrated in the home, our young kings and queens do not know how to treat each other properly.  People gripe and complain about the lack of love in society nowadays.  This lack of love and respect for one another is apparent in today’s music.  The lyrics in music are a clear indication that the majority of our youth do not know how to perform respectful exchanges while dating.  They insist they want “that 90’s R&B love.”  Well, that love dissipated when people began having children out of wedlock at alarming rates.  The newer generations are not witnessing “black love” like the older generations.  In many instances, their parents don’t even like each other and fail to co-parent respectfully.  What can children born from these loveless relationships possibly know about love?  Broken homes are making people lonelier than ever.  Even when children are produced from loving, healthy marriages, they cannot form healthy connections with people with daddy issues.

These dysfunctions are too overwhelming for stable people to repair or tolerate.  Relationships are built on trust and people who suffer from daddy issues are often too distrusting—due to abandonment issues and other let downs—to give and receive love properly.  Human beings are intensely interconnected and need positive human interaction to be happy.  People fail to realize how the mistakes they make when “raising” their children will affect how their children will connect to and interact with other people.  In order for your children to give and receive love, they must first witness a healthy, functioning relationship from their mother and father.  As a result of witnessing dysfunctional relationships and in turn, developing daddy issues, women are more promiscuous and men are more feminine than ever before!  This role-reversal is out of control and must be stopped.  Without the opportunity to watch their parents function in a successful relationship, our youth will continue to be confused about gender roles and what responsibilities they are expected to fulfill as men and women.  Not only is the single motherhood epidemic ruining black communities, it is also destroying “black love.”  This problem must be combated to enrich and improve the state of Black America.

Another problem with the single motherhood epidemic is that it creates disrespectful and strained relationships between black men and women.  Black men and women must treat each other better and strive for loving, healthy and respectful relationships.  It is malicious and selfish to force a man to become a father if he is not ready and if he is financially incapable.  Forcing a man to become a father prematurely is damaging to his manhood, his self-worth and lessens his likelihood of succeeding.  Black women must stop pinning children on underdeveloped black men before they are established and capable of providing for a child.

Sure it may seem as though women are receiving more blame and liability in this situation but this is simply because women are typically more mature.  Women also have control over what happens to their bodies.  Women can use birth control, require men to wear condoms and use a morning after pill following a reckless night.  She can even terminate an accidental pregnancy conceived with an immature man who will undoubtedly be an unfit father.  It is ultimately the woman’s decision that determines whether she becomes a mother and whether he becomes a father.  Part of being a queen entails assuming the role of a protector over our black kings.  Don’t make decisions that will negatively impact a black man’s life if you have the power to avoid doing so.  Don’t take advantage of a man’s naivety and stupidity by forcing him to fill a role he is incapable of fulfilling.   Black women must protect black men in situations when they don’t know any better.  If we expect men to protect us physically, we must protect them judiciously by keeping their best interests in mind, especially when it benefits the black community.  Additionally, black men are wrongly incarcerated everyday so don’t allow child support jail time to serve as another means of incarcerating black men.  Black women must stop procreating with broke men, expecting them to furnish loads of money once the child arrives, as if his financial situation would have miraculously improved overnight.

The decision to become a parent signifies that one is mature enough to “bite the bullet” and accept the consequences that come along with having a child.  When a woman chooses to have a child by a man who lacks resources, this decision indicates that she is content with a life of financial hardship.   Don’t penalize a man for being a loser after you’ve allowed him to get you pregnant.  At this point, you are the one to blame for turning a “little boy” into a father instead of denying him time, attention, energy and sex as a real woman should.  Instead, black men and women must support one another in becoming successful.  Black men and women must love each other better.  We must agree to wear protection and focus on becoming better people prior to becoming parents.  Having children out of wedlock and prior to achieving success is damaging to both black men and women as well as to our children and our community.

The twins’ modeling assignments consisted of cosmetic contracts, hair ads, editorial spreads and catalogue work. Kelly.  The twins eventually transitioned into acting and TV hosting as well. While working both together and individually, they landed roles in films, television and commercials. Get to know The Twins:

Who Are “The Glenn Twins?”

We are published models and working actors & TV hosts.  We begin branding ourselves as “The Glenn Twins” when we gained popularity as “video vixens” when that era was popular.  We have since become entrepreneurs and published authors as well.  We are also advocates of education (holding BBAs in accounting) and black consciousness.

What motivated you to write this book?

We have always been driven by the need to advance Black America.  We take great pride in our heritage and have always understood the power black women hold in motivating men and children. We know that in order for black people to become successful, black women must have a positive mind-set to enrich our community.

What do you want women to take away from this book?

We want black women to treat themselves with a higher regard.  We want to remind them that we are queens and we must make life choices that reflect greatness.  We want women to love themselves and eradicate the single-motherhood epidemic in our communities.  Black children deserve committed fathers and black women must make building strong black families a priority.

In Section 1 “Managing Our Love Lives” you encourage black women to consider interracial dating…why?

Black women deserve to be loved properly.  Unfortunately the black male psyche has been damage to some degree.  When black men grow up without fathers or good examples that encourage them to be good men, husbands and fathers, they lack the understanding of how to perform these responsibilities.  We encourage black women to date and/or marry men who understand how to perform these responsibilities, even if they are not black men.

In Section 2 “Understanding Men” Why do you stress the importance of letting men pursue women? Isn’t this process a bit old-fashioned?

Courtship is old-fashioned but it isn’t obsolete.  When women understand a man’s innate desire to pursue women she will understand that it is not her place to try to convince a man to love her.  Men like what they like and it is impossible to influence a man to develop feelings for you.

In Section 3 “Managing How We Treat Each Other” you encourage women to pay attention to their “internal dialogue” when engaging with other women…what is “internal dialogue” and why should women be concerned about these thoughts?

Internal dialogue is the judgments and thoughts women harness when interacting with other women.  It is important to analyze these thoughts because they will reveal if you are harnessing insecurities or if you are self-assured.  Understanding and mastering self-love and self-acceptance is necessary to be a successful woman and a respectful and supportive sister to other black women.

In Section 4 “Changing Our Views on Single Motherhood” you discuss the double standard that negatively affects women but not necessarily men when having children out of wedlock.  What are these double standards?

It is always disadvantageous for women to be a man’s baby momma.  Women usually have primary custody which forces them to live as a parent while men can often live as bachelors.  This makes dating and finding love while being a single mother much more restricted than it is for men.  Also, women have to deal with post-partum bodies and possible psychological effects after child birth.

In Section 4 “Changing Our Views on Single Motherhood” you identify 3 possible attitudes a woman’s baby daddy harvests for her.  Why is it helpful to analyze how a woman’s baby daddy feels about her?

The decision to give a man a child is the most important decision a woman will ever make.  Analyzing how the man you appointed as “worthy” of this gift will indicate a woman’s decision making abilities, maturity, intellect and level of self-esteem.

In Section 4 “Changing Our Views on Single Motherhood” you discuss how single-motherhood affects children’s dating patterns in adulthood. How so?

The quality of the relationship between a child’s mother and father is immensely influential on how the child will interact in relationships in the future.  Children will subconsciously mimic the relationship they have witnessed from their parents.  Children will often seek-out a partner that mirrors their opposite sex parent. If the relationship was positive, children will more likely seek out positive, loving relationships.  If the example was negative, abusive or toxic, they will likely seek out negative, abusive or toxic relationships.

In Section 4 “Changing Our Views on Single Motherhood” you discuss how single-motherhood is cyclical.  How can single-mothers break the cycle?

Individual therapy and family therapy can correct and heal emotional damage and mental dysfunctions that caused the mother to choose an unfit father.  Family discussions about how to properly structure a family can correct a child’s mindset.  Receiving postsecondary education is proven to lessen the likelihood of a person having a child out of wedlock so single mothers should stress the importance of education and goal setting.

Because of God, nothing will stop Anika from marrying the love of her life, not even paranoid schizophrenia. You don’t want to miss this spiritual journey filled with inspiration and power.

This book is insightful and perceptive. Inspired by a true story. Few people consider the God factor in mental health. Join Anika and journey with her as she receives revelations from God while on her walk to overcome mental illness and naiveness towards religion. Required reading for High schools and colleges.

Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Anika begins to lose her mind. While continuing to stare at the television set, Anika sees a vision of Jesus. He appears to her in just as perfect form and image as the paintings on Mary’s wall. She then hears Jesus speak, “I am the son of God.” Then just as fast as he appears, he leaves her vision.

“Did you see him? Did you see Jesus?” Anika turns and looks at her friends. Words are stuck within their throats.

“Did you see him? Did you see Jesus?” Anika repeats once more.

“Anika, you’re really scaring us. I thought you were Muslim?” Mary says.

Anika then feels as if someone was controlling her thoughts. “Forgive yourself.”

She then begins to ramble, “Atoms are neither created nor destroyed. There was always an existence. You have to take baby steps to understand how this existence works, where we came from, how it started. Don’t jump from A to Z. No, you must go from A to C. Take a break. It has been painted. First there was nothing; it was blackness, pitch blackness. There was first the black hole. A plumber can understand the black hole. There was a white light. The creator is positive energy. We all have a little bit of positive energy. A person of positivity can change your life without saying a word. We try to increase positive energy which is the same as increasing spiritually. Once we are of that same positivity as the creator, we become one with him. Only a few souls have reached this level of existence. The rest of us are growing spiritually so we can reach that level.“

It appears to Anika that she is making sense as she began to explain herself, justifying her words.

“Positive times positive equals positive. Negative times positive equals negative. Therefore, if you have any negativity in you, you cannot become one with positivity.”

“The creator is all positive energy. Negative times negative equals positive. If you learn from loads of negativity you will learn from your mistakes and become all positive. It’s mathematics. Everything stems from mathematics. Less than a cup of wine is what I need to rest. Don’t want to scare away this beautiful spirit controlling my thoughts.” While holding the sides of her head trying to rid her racing thoughts, she runs into the kitchen and pours herself a cup of wine. She then thinks, “no one will ever have to go through what I went through again!”

Anika takes a look at her past to see how in the world she got to this point in her life.

Swiyyah Nadirah Woodard was selected as a Bay News 9 Everyday Hero, which was seen by two million viewers, for publishing a book and teaching the community about her own battle with mental  illness. She was hospitalized six times and misdiagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Her first book, Don’t Call Me Crazy! I’m Just in Love, became required and suggested reading in Reading, Writing, Abnormal Psychology, and General Psychology classes at a four year Institution.

She was born in the housing projects of Saint Petersburg, FL. Her father left when she was three so she was raised in a single parent home. At the age of five she was molested by her eight year old brother. She later started school, she had slurred speech and didn’t care to make friends so she was bullied by her peers. At the age of eight, she wanted to kill herself because a girl wanted to fight her. She looked into the medicine cabinet for medication. Thank God, she couldn’t find any.

As a teenager she was physically abused by her step dad. The abuse was so severe, God blocked it from her memory. At the age of 20 the brother that molested her committed suicide, which was devastating to her and the entire family. Swiyyah has always viewed herself as normal. She never received any disciplinary problems in school, made good grades, and received her BA degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida.

When the doctors misdiagnosed her with the most debilitating mental disorder known in mental health, paranoid schizophrenia, she denied it. She questioned their expertise. She refused to take medication. She was then hospitalized six times. Her family took a picture of her at her worst and that’s when she knew she needed help. She has been taking medication now for ten years without a relapse.

She is now a published author and a National Inspirational Speaker. Her first book is entitled, “Don’t Call Me Crazy! I’m just in Love,” and is inspired by her true story.

She was raised Muslim and the revelations she received from God and placed in her books, didn’t make any since until she meets her Christian husband 14 years after her first relapse.

I remember going through stages in my life where I had no money; I was broken in spirit and mind.

One day I realized in order to make more money and live the life I wanted, I had to start with myself.  I started reading tons of self-help books, prayed more and did affirmation exercises to lift my self-esteem. It was time to see growth.
If you are ready to challenge yourself and start seeing better results from your creative ideas, then this book is for you.
Dreamers, Take Action! is an actionable blueprint for creating the life you want.
This book is equipped with steps and daily challenges that I’ve taken to change a few needed things.
I’ve joined new networks with successful people, I’m finishing projects that I’ve started, and I am walking through open doors of lucrative opportunities, all by following one simple step.
That step is taking action.
Follow me into this journey as I vulnerably explain the road I took to get to where I am.
Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to work diligently to finish what you’ve started.
I trust that you’re ready to take that leap of faith.

“Don’t give up. Finish what you’ve started.”

That’s so hard to say, especially coming from a person like me. I’ve rarely ever finished anything that I’ve pursued in my life.
However, this time it is different.
I finished this assignment to create a life for the both of us. “Us” being the dreamers who have so much inside of our mind, body and soul, but were barely taught to manifest it to completion.
On my journey of being a dreamer, I realized that one thing was wrong: I was too busy dreaming, starting amazing ideas but not finishing the things I dreamt about.
Today, I pass down what I’ve learned. I pass down what I’ve encountered during this journey in hopes that you will use this book as a tool to not make the same mistakes that I made. Instead, use it to learn and reroute yourself onto the path to your success. I trust your ability just like I trust mine. Take this journey with me and let’s conquer together. We owe it to ourselves, and we only can imagine where it will take us.
The goal is to not get distracted for any reason. Focus on your dream and vision 1000%. Most importantly, don’t give up. Finish what you’ve started, just like I’ve finished this book! It took some time, prayer and focus, but we are here.
Let me show you how I did it. After this, pay it forward. Share your journey with all around you so each of us can learn from each other and not make the same mistakes

Nikkie Pryce is focused on inspiring and motivating people to put action behind their dreams.

Being in the media industry and working directly with the public, she has experience pushing people past their own created limitations.

She has earned the title of “self-love influencer” through her organization, The I AM Community.

It all started on Thursday, July 3, 2014. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a beautiful summer day, clear skies, and a nice, very much appreciated breeze from the close by Santa Monica Pier. As I traveled on foot to my 36-week
checkup and ultrasound, the nurse assigned to me that day gave me a biophysical profile (ultrasound and non-stress test combined) that was sent via live-feed to my doctor to view. My baby King opened his hand and closed his hand as if he was saying, “Hello.” The doctor was astonished. She said that babies at 36 weeks’ gestation usually didn’t have those motor skills yet. She said
everything looked great and made my appointment for the following week. Little did I know that King was really saying, “Goodbye,” and that would be the last time I saw him alive. I walked back to the office and stayed until the end of
my modified shift. I gave hugs to everyone since I was starting maternity leave
the next day. On Friday, the 4th of July, 2014, hubby and the boys went to Bakersfield for the 4th of July festivities. I stayed home since I was so close to my due date. Instead of watching fireworks, I rested most of the day and then
attempted to do some online shopping with a ToysRUs® gift card I had received
from my coworkers. I found a cute outfit that had a crown and the wording
“King” on it, and I said this would be so cute since my husband had named our
son King. For some reason, their system was having issues and would not
complete the order. So, I mustered up some energy and took my pregnant self to Target to get some baby clothes for King. As I was walking around in the store, I felt King getting heavy and felt that he was finally turned over and engaged since he was still breech during the ultrasound the previous day. On my way home, I grabbed some food, arrived home safely, and left the clothes in my
trunk so Cory and the boys could bring them up the next day when they got home.
It was so hot, I had the central air on full-blast trying to cope with the heat since I was heavily pregnant. Neighbors far off were having fun with their families setting off fireworks. Cory and our two boys Isaiah and Solomon were still in Bakersfield having a ball with the family. Cory and the boys were scheduled to come home from Bakersfield on the afternoon of July 5, 2014. Instead, he said he had an urge to come home in the early hours of July 5, 2014 since he knew King Josiah “KJ” was due soon. He kissed me, letting me know he was there, and I fell back to sleep.

About the Author

Award-winning author Laurie Larsen leads a double life.  During the day she’s a respected Project Manager in the fast-paced world of Information Technology. After dinner and a glass of wine, she becomes a multi-published author of Christian fiction grounded in today’s modern world.

Laurie’s been published for 17 years, but feels she finally found her writing “niche” in 2009 when her first inspirational romance, Preacher Man was published.  It won fans, accolades, and the prestigious EPIC Award for the Best Spiritual Romance of 2010.  From then on, her path was clear.  She was put on this earth (in part) to tell love stories combined with a strong message of faith.  Her Pawleys Island Paradise series is a much beloved, at times best-selling series of six books following Leslie and Hank, and the Harrison clan, as they face the daily challenges of life while trying to include prayer and praise.  Reviewers say the books are heartwarming, life-changing and an example to follow for including God in your life.

Laurie loves the beach (obvious to anyone who’s read the Pawleys Island Paradise series) and she’s fondly looking forward to a day (not too far away) where she can retire from the demanding day job, and spend her days living at the beach and writing novels.  Until then, she travels back and forth between Illinois and South Carolina just as often as possible.

Genre: Inspirational Romance

There’s more than one way to be a hero . . .

Former Special Forces soldier Hank Fleming is living a safe, quiet life in upstate New York, but there are days he isn’t sure he’s going to make it. The sole survivor of a devastating grenade attack in Afghanistan, he is still scarred, physically and emotionally. He hangs on to his faith and tries to keep moving forward, waiting for the day that something—or someone—can make him feel whole again.

Cindy Giordano is searching too—for her biological family and a fresh start. When her journey to find her brother, Edward, leads to Hank’s front door, she is instantly drawn to Hank . . . and instantly wary. With her ex-fiancé’s betrayal still fresh in her mind, friendship is about all she can muster.

When shadows from Cindy’s past threaten, Hank’s protective instincts shift into high gear, and he realizes everyone has their own battles to fight. But the road to healing would be much sweeter with the right person by his side . . .

Hank Fleming peeled off his cold, wet T-shirt and tossed it aside in the dark. The nightmare clung to his psyche even as he stood at his hotel room window staring into the night illuminated by only a stingy sliver of moon. Whitecaps danced like ghostly apparitions across the pitch-black ocean surface, adding to his uneasiness.

Was this reality, here, now, with his toes deep in the plush carpeting of a resort hotel in Miami Beach with the air conditioner humming? Or was the real Hank Fleming still lying on the ground in Afghanistan, a soldier bleeding from multiple wounds with his left eye dangling off his cheekbone by a few threads of nerves?

If only he could erase the images. The sounds. The RPG blast. The roaring fire consuming what was left of the truck he’d been driving with four men inside. But most of all their horrible deaths. Hank willed his breaths to an even cadence and reined in his galloping heart. The rat-a-tat of M4 rifles, acrid smell of burning rubber, and the unit medic’s face started to dissolve as if being sucked, particle-by-particle, feature-by-feature, back into another realm.

Hank brought his fingers to the eyepatch that covered his left eye socket and pressed the fabric into the hidden void. Reality, harsh and merciless, stung him to the core. He’d lost an eye, hearing in one ear, and bore fading scars where the explosion had hurled shrapnel into his flesh. But, he’d survived while four of his fellow soldiers perished. Hank lifted his gaze to the crescent moon. “Why, God? Why?”

From broke to retired in ten years . . .
Returning home from Desert Storm, I found myself mentally and financially bankrupt. Newly divorced, I had no job, no help, and no hope. My reasons to live were gone. At the lowest point in my life, I fell back on simple truths from my childhood: hard work gets results, and it’s okay to dream. And dream I did, setting goals that launched me from poverty to a life I could not have imagined. And you can do it, too.
Dreams, Goals, and Adventure will inspire you to dream big, work toward your goals, and live your life as an adventure every day.
* Don’t be afraid to dream.
* Don’t accept “no” as an answer.
* Remove “can’t” from your vocabulary.
* Small goals are stepping stones to much larger goals.
* Learn how to spring forward from failure.
* Know you will have to adjust.
* Live life as an adventure.
“Your experiences are so extra-ordinary and you’re fascinating to listen to. Your speaking style is humble and respectful of both your role as a speaker and of your audience, as one would expect after hearing of what you were trained to do. If others would open their lives to adventure as you have they would love their life even more.” ~Jim Cathcart, author of the bestsellers: The Acorn Principle and Relationship Selling. CEO of Cathcart.com

Financial Independence means having control over your time
without worrying about the ability to pay your bills” … So many think they have to be as wealthy as Bill Gates to live a rich life, that is so far from the truth … Let me show you how.

I was a dreamer from an early age. To this day I believe anyone can do whatever they choose to put their mind to.
I didn’t go from eight years old to semi-retired in the length of one sentence. Nor was it easy. But I did follow a simple, time-honored process.
I was in my twenties before I fully understood the true importance of goal setting. After that, I was able to be more focused, see where I wanted to be, how I was going to get there, notice when I needed to make adjustments, and had the satisfaction of reaching goals. I enjoyed the benefits of reaching a goal and putting a big, fat check mark on my list.
Here’s how those goals paid off:
At 8, sold vegetables door to door from my little red wagon
Age 13, supervisor, World’s Fare Hamburgers
Age 15, assistant manager trainee, Pizza Hut
Age 16, assistant manager, Round Table Pizza
Age 18, began a 20-year commitment with the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, retiring in 2005 as a staff sergeant and Desert Storm veteran. Over my service career I became a leader and was recognized and awarded for my achievements and outstanding service.
Age 20, found my true calling as a sales professional
Age 31, began a successful career in real estate and real estate investments
Age 36, semi-retired
Age 37, owned and operated several companies
Age 41, semi-retired, sold everything and sailed south on his 45’ sailboat
Although I found success at a very early age, I became painfully aware of how quickly it can all be taken away. In 1991, after I returned from Desert Storm, I found myself bankrupt, mentally, physically and financially and divorced.
It was the lowest point in my life. Four years later, I had clawed my way back to even, and started to build from there. Two years after that, following my roadmap of goals, I reached my first level of financial independence. The rest is history.
