by Vanessa Morgan
Genre: Horror, Suspense

Clervaux, Luxembourg. This secluded, picturesque town in the middle of Europe is home to more cats than people. For years, tourists have flocked to this place – also known as “cat haven” – to meet the cats and buy cat-related souvenirs.

When Aidan, Jess and their five-year-old daughter, Eleonore, move from America to Clervaux, it seems as if they’ve arrived in paradise. It soon becomes evident, though, that the inhabitants’ adoration of their cats is unhealthy. According to a local legend, each time a cat dies, nine human lives are taken as a punishment. To tourists, these tales are supernatural folklore, created to frighten children on cold winter nights. But for the inhabitants of Clervaux, the danger is horrifyingly real.

Initially, Aidan and Jess regard this as local superstition, but when Jess runs over a cat after a night on the town, people start dying, one by one, and each time it happens, a clowder of cats can be seen roaming the premises.

Are they falling victim to the collective paranoia infecting the entire town? Or is something unspeakably evil waiting for them?

Their move to Europe may just have been the worst decision they ever made.

AM13 Outbreak Book 1

Leah Watton’s practical joke has spiralled way out of control—all to impress a crush…

With a prank online video, Leah hopes to catch the attention of Jake Colton, a cute, blond-haired, blue-eyed co-worker she’s had a crush on for months. But instead of sending it to Jake, she manages to forward the clip to her boss—who buys every gory second.

When mass panic ensues, Leah learns the video is more than a staged act…

The government is calling the virus AM13. As the outbreak spreads, citizens are forced to stay indoors while they assess the gravity of the illness. Most people are quarantined in their homes, but Leah, Jake, and Leah’s best friend Michelle are some of the unlucky few who are stuck at work when the Lockdown occurs.

That’s where she first encounters one of the infected…

Aside from a contaminated woman devouring one of her co-workers, Leah has another problem. Does she do as she’s ordered and stay at work? Or should she disobey government orders and break free to reunite with her family?

She can’t go it alone—after all, Leah has none of the skills needed to survive—but with Michelle and Jake by her side, not even a contagious virus and a sea of the dead can keep her from…

Breaking out of the Lockdown…

AM13 Outbreak Book 2

Every attempt to contain the deadly AM13 virus has failed, leaving humanity on the brink of extinction…

The plague is spreading out of control with no cure in sight. Then the government announces its new plan—a sanctuary in an area completely untouched by the infected—as long as you can get there alive and unscathed.

Ethan Watton has managed to survive this long, even with OCD making every day more hellish than it already is…

Ethan’s obsessive-compulsive disorder dramatically affected his life before the infection began. Now he’s desperate to get as far away from the zombie virus as humanly possible. Isolated and afraid, Ethan thinks there is no way in hell he will survive the epidemic.

Alyssa Turner has spent her teenage years prepping for the undead to challenge her zombie killing skills…

Alyssa knows with absolute certainty that she will survive the AM13 virus. She’s read all the books, watched all the films, and done all the research. She’s strong, tough, and a self-proclaimed badass. Any group would be lucky to fight alongside her…until the unthinkable
makes her doubt every skill she’s acquired.

Dr. Jones is a scientist who doesn’t understand why he was selected to produce a cure…

Surely there are survivors more experienced in virology than he is. And what will happen to him—and the rest of the species—if he fails? Is the fate of the human race really resting on his shoulders? Or are there others working toward the same goal?

With the zombies multiplying and survivors struggling to make it to the sanctuary, Ethan, Alyssa, and Dr. Jones fight to fulfill their destinies. If they fail, their fate is sealed, and they will join the millions of others who have been…

AM13 Outbreak Book 3

Writing books about the horrors of the zombie apocalypse is one thing—but Georgie Blake can’t believe it has become her reality…

She never expected her fictional stories of blood, death, and the consumption of human flesh to jump off the page into the real world. She certainly didn’t think she’d survive this long if they had. As a shy novelist, she was sure she’d be one of the first to die.

Safe in the Sanctuary, Georgie holds on to hope for a cure…

But that’s not all she holds on to. The government has promised the people of the Sanctuary that they can return home. The rumours are rife that there is an antidote on the horizon. But even if not, the infected are dying out, throwing the treacherous AM13 virus to the brink of extinction. If the infection dies out, this horrible nightmare Georgie is living in will be a distant memory.

Until everything that’s right goes terribly wrong…

Soon after meeting some new friends in the Sanctuary, Georgie learns she’s going to have to face the monsters outside the walls if she wants to return to her old life. But for a scared, introverted bookworm, it may be too much to consider…

Will Georgina conquer her fears of the dead to return home, or will she be one of the countless others who have gone Extinct?

A Medical Thriller
by Joanie Chevalier
Publication Date: May 21, 2017
Genre: Medical Thriller/Horror

What if, in the near future, we could choose the body we wanted? We could visit a store front, much like a neighborhood mom-and-pop shop, and we’d see all the available bodies lined up in a glass-enclosed case. We’d be able to choose the body we wanted, purchase it, have an operation, and wham bam! wake up with our new body.
Dr. Farkis begins his head transplant operations in secret in Oakland, California and Tokyo, Japan. When news filters out about his revolutionary surgery, individuals from all walks of life come forward, desperate for a new body and an improved life that only Dr. Farkis can offer. We meet: Barry, so frantic for a new body, he stalks the doctor and bargains with a menacing ultimatum; Aiko, father of 19-year-old Kaneko, who demands that she undergo the operation to become more attractive to snag a husband; and finally, Baby, who finds out the hard way that demanding a new body may end up being fatal.
Choosing the perfect physique from a smorgasbord of available bodies may seem like a dream . . . until it becomes a nightmare.

“I’m saying that you can’t leave.” Farkis shrugged nonchalant. “Not now that you’ve heard about our little operation here. You see, once you have the surgery, we erase your memory of the pre-consultation. Instead, you’ll think you were on a fat farm for six weeks.” The doctor looked proud. He leaned in towards them. “That was my idea, by the way. The fake memory,” he whispered. “Clever, eh?”

“Of course,” he added, “you can leave after you recover from the operation, since you won’t remember anything. And if you see anyone with a faint scar around their neck in the future, because this is sure to catch on, you know, you’ll be conditioned to ignore it.”

Denny stopped pacing. “Is this a joke?” His eyes looked wild, like a caged animal’s.

“If it’s a joke, it’s not funny,” Baby added. Her voice trembled and she hiccupped.

“Oh, believe me. It’s not a joke.”

Farkis stood up from the desk and walked over to the wall adjacent the door. He pressed a fist-sized red button. The wall behind the chalkboard slid open. A cold blast of air swept into the room as if a freezer door had been left open.

“Follow me,” the doctor commanded. “I’ll show you the available bodies. You can choose the one you like.” He grinned, directing his comment to Baby.

“Well, as long as I don’t have any long-lasting scars…” Baby commented in a soft, distant voice.

The crazy doctor then turned to Denny. “Of course, I’ll need a $1.2 million deposit from you, dear Mr. Denny. Don’t worry,” he added when he noticed Denny’s face became flushed with astonishment. “Baby’s already given me a few of your account details…”

Before Denny could protest and insist that the doctor show them out ASAP, they’d stepped inside the cold room. That’s when he saw frozen, naked bodies stacked up on a Ferris wheel-like contraption. Denny promptly fainted.

Baby stepped over him and followed the doctor. She couldn’t wait to pick out her new body.

Jason R. Barden
The Spitting Post
Genre: Horror, Dark Fantasy
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Publication Date: December 8, 2017
Vincent must find the Spitting Post, but only the purple swan knows the way.
Vincent Carpenter’s life is a wreck. He has given up his dreams. He has lost his job after an economic disaster. His ten-year marriage is crumbling. Then he awakens in a maniacal land of frighteningly vivid realism with skull trees, glowing forests, ravenous beasts, and other psychologically haunting adversity.
While traveling through this demented unearthly world, he has a chance encounter with a beautiful maiden dressed in green; before he can start a conversation, she disappears into the unknown. Vincent must try to find her at a fantastical place known as the Spitting Post. But first he must overcome many macabre misfortunes and face nightmares that question his sanity. Will he reach her? What will the Spitting Post reveal? Will he suffer more disappointment and tragedy? Or will he find peace at last?
Review from The Romance Reviews
Vincent Carpenter isn’t having a good day. It’s the weekend and he forgot to turn off his alarm. When he rolls out of bed, he’s surprised to see that his wife, Erika, isn’t there. When he does find her, he mentions the dinner reservations he’d made for their tenth anniversary but she doesn’t want to go. What follows is a slow trip down a rabbit hole to the land of the mundane.
Until it isn’t.
Suddenly, he awakens in a strange world where nothing is normal. From the glowing forests to the skull trees, Vincent is lost in a world that would rival the minds of some modern masters of the macabre. A chance meeting with the Green Maiden forces Vincent through this nightmare world in search of a place called the Spitting Post but to get there, he must face some intense nightmares that could destroy even the strongest of psyches.
I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this story and I found it as intriguing as it was disturbing and that’s a good thing. With each new ordeal/event, Vincent finds himself more immersed in his nightmares, and we as readers, gain a bit more information. So much so that once you reach the end (Spoilers!), you’ll find yourself going back to reread sections again.
For when you do: “You must rethink everything you thought you knew. You must let your mind go back to the beginning and reconsider what it is you thought was truth, what you thought was reality, and what you thought was a dream,” and even then, THE SPITTING POST will surprise you.

The Spitting Post Teaser

When night settled in, the trees began their song of despair and completely blocked out any other noise. This is great, I thought. The beast could be right on me, and I would never even hear it. But the trees continued their sad symphony just the same.
With the thought of the beast ripping at my body and consuming my insides and the tree’s wailing, I found myself at the edge of lunacy. When dawn finally broke, the trees stopped their wailing, and the silence became deafening yet again. At last, peace and quiet. I picked myself up from the madness and marched onward. I was not a bit hungry, and my stomach was far too nervous for breakfast, so I went without. I also knew this would save time. One extra moment in this place was one too many.
Again I found my thoughts racing as fast as my feet. It would be a complete triumph when I escaped this land, or so I thought. If only I could make it to the bridge, then maybe I would be safe. As I raced on like a frightened animal about to become the beast’s dinner, I thought about the townspeople. I hoped they were safe in their new home far from here; I felt empathy for them knowing what fear the beast inspired.
I was lost in thought when again I heard the violin’s call. It was close this time—too close. I stopped and surveyed the land with terrified eyes, growing more anxious with each passing note. The ambient tune working itself into a manic frenzy. Can’t they shut up? With that racket the beast would find us, and I knew what would happen when it did. There would be no more violin playing for that musician, and I would never find The Green Maiden.
I scanned the countryside for the insane violinist and spotted him on a small hill just to my right. When I saw his ghastly appearance, I almost wished I hadn’t found him. He was a stout man dressed in total blackness with a red violin resting against his shoulder. His skin was a brilliant white, as white as a bed sheet. On his head was a black top hat, and he wore a twisted grin on his porcelain face.
“What are you doing?” I yelled. “It will hear us!”
The man said nothing and kept playing his maddening melody.
“Are you crazy?”
The man opened his mouth wide and without moving his lips, he said, “Precisely.”
Then he began to cry tears of blood, yet still he played. The blood rolled down his face and pooled on the grass. Then I came to a grotesque realization. He was not playing for amusement; he was calling the beast.

In Nadia’s Heart, Part One, amnesiac Nadia knew that something was wrong, so she went in search of her missing heart. What she encountered has only brought more questions: about her origins and her ties to the people of the Land of Silence. She learned that her heart was indeed removed, and that her memory was erased by an evil Voice. But why?
Now Nadia and her glowing-eyed companion, Georgeonus, must help recover the stolen hearts of the children of the Land of Silence. In Part Two, they will do battle against the evil Voice and travel to frightening places. They receive help from a powerful Witch and Wizard, and Nadia gets her heart back—but it’s not at all what she expected. Can they rescue the stolen children’s hearts in time?

 From Chapter III: Fighting Back:

They headed for the road, away from the castle tumbling toward them, hoping the mountain itself would hold until they could get to the bottom. But what awaited them at the bottom was a sheet of ice, and it too could crack and send them down into the frigid deep.
She had never driven a sleigh nor a team of dogs before. The pure instinct of survival now taught her. As they rounded the rough road, more slippery now as they gathered speed, their path looked grim. Giant chunks of the castle came descending down, hitting the mountain’s jagged sides and causing avalanches of huge falling debris. The children screamed, and Nadia wanted to do the same and take refuge closer in toward the mountain, but there was nothing that would shelter them. She kept focused on the dogs in front of her, thinking only of getting to the bottom. Cascading from above came another rock, and the children held onto the sleighs, terrified. Nadia tried to turn the sleigh toward the mountain to avoid it. They swerved dangerously around the edge of the road.
Something also descended from the sky. It was a black figure, but Nadia could not even think about another potential threat as the second sleigh bore down upon them, rushing behind her. They swerved back to a straight course, barely missing the rolling boulder which crashed onto the road.

#BookReview…The Dead Wake Anthology…#BookBoost #Horror #SundayMorning #MustRead @AuthorEllie

Ten utterly gruesome tales, that will disable you. You won’t know what hit you.  You will from this day forward sleep with one eye open.  Insist that all the lights stay on…always.

You will begin a ritual; checking under your bed, inside the closet and double checking your windows. Throw into this the sick and twisted and the utterly crazy humor and your stomach will explode. With some erotica, you’ll be hot and sweaty and wont know which way to run...and you’ll be scared for life.  In the best possible way.

From outer space journeys to passengers on a subway station to families eating in a mall—all sounds very simple and something we’re quite used to, but what would appear to be normal isn’t quite so.  For you see, there was something wrong with each of those scenarios.  Most of the characters you read in these stories are the walking dead—Zombies running amuck!

If you’re a fan of the Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt, The Night of the Living Dead, well you’ve come to the right place.  Every kind of zombie imaginable Douglas has graced each of the pages with one horrific tale after the other.  There were tons of gore galore and for this horror fan reader, I just couldn’t get enough.  My all time favorite story was the one where the mother and her kids were at the mall sitting at an eatery enjoying her KFC moment, when blood curdling screams could be heard throughout the mall, and her own children began getting frightened.  The way that story ended had me in total stitches, literally.

Everything about these stories were downright hilarious with some very real life’s lessons to be learned.  One thing is for sure, I’ve learned many people do not take heed to their surroundings.  It would seem to me if I’m out and about and see what appears to be a human being taking bites out of another person, and you just sit there as if this is just a normal everyday occurrence, something is seriously wrong with you and that picture.  I often found myself happy when the zombies got some of the living humans because they were just plain stupid to wait around to see what would happen to them next.  My other favorite story was the one where the guy who was homeless makes a deal with the devil to turn his life around, and boy did the devil ever come through.  There were several lessons in that story.

Douglas did an amazing job with all the gory details.  Some of it was so gross I had to look away, but for only a second, and my eyes went right back to reading because I couldn’t get enough.  I’m a huge horror fan and the bloodier the better and Douglas definitely kept the gore factor going.  She even managed to throw in some sexy scenes and tons of humor.  You can’t read gory stories like this and take them seriously, although Douglas’ writing was on point!  She most definitely took her writing seriously.  Each of these ten tales will catapult the reader to the next level.  And what was really touching is how each of the stories, although reads as a standalone, they each connected.

Douglas made the zombies the star of the show while showcasing her talent for great storytelling.  The hairs on the back of my neck and arms rose quite a bit as she built up the suspense.  These stories were haunting, yet at the same time, kept you laughing because you had no idea where the story was going next.  The human characters’ reactions were spot on in some cases, and then in others, you wondered where their minds were at.  Oh…that’s right, perhaps the zombies took a bite out of their brains.  No matter, there was plenty of body parts, blood and brain matter to satisfy the horror fan.  Outstanding anthology!  I just wished I had waited until October to read, but it didn’t matter because I was terrified beyond belief reading each and every night.  (chuckle)

Mello & June gives The Dead Wake Anthology five bites of body parts!  Douglas is very talented writing an anthology that should be made into a short film.  I’d love to see these stories come to life on the silver screen.  Oh, what a great movie this would make!   However, having said that, if you’re not a true fan of horror and do not like blood and guts and gross stuff, I wouldn’t suggest you’d read this type of book.  But for all my real horror fans out there, get to reading.  You’ll love it.  Just make sure you’ve eaten well in advance before you begin this book.  There’s lots of gross stuff in it.  I love it!  Until next time, Intellectual Minds, keep on reading!

I’m sick of being poor. Estella Mendoza peered out the misshapen window of her ramshackle home on the outskirts of the small city of Nacozari in Sonora, Mexico. All she saw was a barren and scorched landscape, the sun setting in the distant, bleak horizon. Her stomach was knotted by more than just hunger pangs. A sense of frustration and hopelessness was giving birth to desperation. A fly buzzed around her head and landed on her cheek, which was leathered, lined, and pock-marked by the cruelty of Mother Nature. Time had not been kind to her.

She smacked her face hard, squashing the pesky fly and smearing its blood and guts across her face and hand.

“Got you, you son of a bitch,” she said in Spanish, wiping her palm on the knee of her dirt-stained, torn jeans. She ignored the fly remains on her cheek, moving away from the screenless and paneless window and rummaging through dusty cupboards for a morsel of food. Nothing. A grease-stained, dented fridge door hung open, a small bowl of rice the only thing resembling nourishment on the otherwise empty shelves. Flies circled the rice, at times dive-bombing in for a small stale snack. Bending down, she reached inside, waved the flies away, and picked up the small bowl. Looking around the cluttered kitchen counter, she found a dirty spoon, wiped it on her tattered white t-shirt and, sidestepping debris littering the dirt floor, walked over to a green plastic lawn chair, weathered by the elements and cracking in various spots.

As she sat down, a brittle leg snapped, catapulting her headfirst into a wooden wall. The rice bowl flew out of her hands, shattering against the wall and showering her head with rice and shards of glazed earthenware. She hit the ground ass-first and groaned. “You son of a bitch.” Dazed, she rubbed a small goose egg beginning to sprout on her forehead. Realizing she still clutched the spoon, she flushed and flung it against the door. With a metallic clang, it bounced off the door and skipped along the floor, stopping a few inches from her outstretched feet. Her face tightened and she reached for it, with the intention of throwing it clear out the window.

A knock on the door stopped the arc of her arm. “Who is it?”

From the other side, she heard a female voice say in Spanish, “It’s me. Are you busy?”

Estella recognized the voice. Alejandra Rivera, her friend for over twenty years. Alejandra lived a few blocks away and in Estella’s view, she had everything. A middle-class home, a wonderful working husband, and a ten-year-old devoted and well-behaved son. Where Estella had famine, poverty, and despair, Alexandra had an abundant food supply, an income stream, love, and hope. Poison tentacles of jealousy and resentment coursed through Estella’s dazed mind. “What do you want?”

“I brought you refried beans. And rice.”

Estella got to her feet. “Come in.”

The door opened and Alexandra entered. “What happened?” she asked, concern furrowing her brow as she examined Estella and the accident scene.

Estella pointed to the shattered remains of the plastic chair leg. “It broke and sent me flying.”

“I’m sorry,” Alexandra said, putting the white bowl of beans and rice on a cluttered kitchen table and rushing to her friend’s aid. She escorted Estella to a nearby wooden chair, which looked slightly less dangerous than the offending plastic one, and sat her down. The chair creaked and groaned, but held.

Alexandra produced a plastic spoon from a blue apron attached to her white dress and handed it to Estella. “Eat. It’ll do you good.”

Estella peeled the plastic wrap from the spoon, tossed it on the floor apathetically, and stabbed the spoon into the food. A wave of dizziness swept over her and she waited a moment for her head to clear before digging in. She quickly shoveled three spoonfuls into her mouth and swallowed them, hardly chewing.

Alexandra looked at the bump on Estella’s head and searched her friend’s eyes concernedly. “Are you okay?”

Between mouthfuls, Estella said, “Yeah, just a little bump.”

“Well, be careful.”

As Estella ate, Alexandra approached the kitchen counter and began cleaning up, throwing food wrappings into a nearby wastebasket and neatly piling dirty dishes next to the sink. It wasn’t the first time she’d helped her starving friend by bringing her food and cleaning her humble abode.

“You don’t have to do that.”

Alexandra spun around and looked at Estella cheerily. “It’s not a problem. And look at you, you’re in no shape to do it right now.” She resumed cleaning, turning her back to Estella.

A blind rage—a dark and hateful energy—seethed through Estella’s veins. My chance. Now’s my chance. Before she even realized what she was doing, she leapt from the chair with a vitality and vigor she never knew she possessed, grabbed a hatchet, and rushed toward Alexandra. As Estella swung the hatchet, Alexandra turned around. Her jaw dropped in shock and horror as she looked at Estella with fear-filled brown eyes.

The hatchet sliced into Alexandra’s throat, blood spraying Estella’s face and body. Two more swings and she’d chopped Alexandra’s head clean off. The decapitated head dropped to the floor, rolled into the front door, and stopped. Almost as if she were pursuing her head, Alexandra’s headless body convulsed and, spewing blood like a lawn sprinkler, staggered to the door. She crashed into it and slumped to the ground, outstretched hands frantically reaching for her head for a second or two before growing still.

Estella put the hatchet on the kitchen counter and wiped her bloody face with a soiled dishrag. She sat down at the kitchen table and continued eating. She glanced at the lifeless head and body of her one-time friend. “By the way, thanks for the food.”

Two hours later, when night had blanketed the day, Estella clutched Alexandra’s head in both hands. She danced around a small skeleton statue, sprinkling blood on and around the shrine. Satisfied with her efforts, she put the head next to the statue, lit a candle, and placed it next to the skeleton. She knelt down and began praying for abundance. In the suffused candlelight, the skeleton saint’s hollow eye sockets glittered and glowed. Its grin seemed to mock her efforts and she realized there was more work to be done.

In the month that followed, Estella beheaded two ten-year-old boys, one of them her grandson, and sacrificed their blood to the skeleton saint. At the end of that month, she was convinced she had finally won the favor of her Goddess. On that day the police raided her home and discovered the bodies of all three victims buried beneath her dirt floor. She was sentenced to life imprisonment, showed no remorse for the killings, and authorities labelled her a serial killer.

Freaky Franky Amazon Reviews

Another captivating thriller from author William Blackwell. This is a well-researched and well-crafted read. Tension is maintained at a high level throughout the novel and threads are expertly woven between the characters to pull them all together in the end. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy suspense, a fair bit of graphic violence and generally being scared to death. — N.B.

A wonderfully written book where the reader can’t help but be drawn to the characters. Mr. Blackwell’s descriptive writing style allows us a personal glimpse into the minds of his characters to a point where you will feel as though they’re lifelong friends. My only dislike is that it ended. –– Tawnya Lynch

In a few words, Freaky Franky is different to what you have seen so far. The latest novel from Blackwell is probably one of the very best books I had my hands on of this genre. Fine writing, and not just one of the best novels from Blackwell, but in my opinion one of the best dark-fiction novels ever written to date. Starting up with a charismatic and charming story-line that quickly develops into a full-blown nightmare, taking the reader on a fascinating voyage to hell, and showing the reader the filth of the human soul. Freaky Franky is going to anchor deep down in the reader’s sub-conscience in a very complex way. That been said, this novel and the story is filled with vibrant emotions, and simply outstanding writing. — Amazon Kunde

My stories vary from sweet and romantic to whimsical and mischievous, to temperamental and moody. My fervent imagination makes all of my projects different. I started to focus on my writing career after developing a nasty case of empty nest syndrome. My stories have appeared online at Speculative 66, 101 Words, Our Write Side, and Dark Chapter Press, as well as in anthologies published by Rhetoric Askew and Our Write Side. I have several anthology projects in the works, several working with various charities. ‘Whisper of an Angel’ is my first full length romance novel, but I have many more in progress that cover different genres, each blended with a romantic element.

I spend my days behind a desk, and try to write in the evenings while entertained by my greatest distraction,my Jack Russell. I enjoy creating with polymer clay, hiking and exploring the great outdoors. I spend time volunteering at a local wildlife rescue and am a total Hallmark Channel addict.

Frank J. Edler

My mother was an alien and my father was a lamp post. I was fed a steady dose of soap bars as a child as punishment for my foul mouth and incessant pranks. Little did anyone know the soap only made me stronger, faster, more agile. My brain filled with bubbles that were 99.9% pure. It was an amazing time. I left the city and moved out to the country where I heard tell there is an amazing banana bread store. I never found it, but I did find love. I loved that tuna sandwich like no other and we were married on the Fourth of July, just like Tom Cruise in that one movie about said date. It was a magical time but alas was not meant to be. I ate it. I tried to move
on, writing books and sharing them with the local townsfolk. They would tell me to shut up and make sure I flushed before I left. Never once did I wash my hands like the signs demanded. So here I am, dirty handed and telling my tales. Wanna hear one?

Desert Swarm

After his superior officers are killed in action, Corporal Josiah Key assumes command of the 3rd Battalion, Marine Raiders. In the tiny village of Shabhut, Yemen, while trying to put the blast on ISIS forces, an even deadlier enemy emerges: ancient, unreasoning creatures who tear into both U.S. troops and terrorists without mercy, leaving brutally dismembered corpses in their wake.

They are known as the Idmonarchne Brasieri, giant prehistoric spiders roused from millennia-long slumber by power-mad terrorists. These aptly-named ‘Arachnosaurs’ are hungry. They’re angry. And they have declared war against all of humanity . . . whose days might just be numbered unless Key and his unit can stop them.

Piercing the Veil

by Guy Riessen

Genre: Horror, Supernatural Occult Thriller

What do flesh-eating cell phones, brain-enhancing tacos, and a real live dead foot have in common?

They’re all tools in the destruction of our world, and a weapons-grade teamof heavily-armed Miskatonic University nerds may be humanity’s last hope.

Something is ripping holes in the Veil of energy that separates our world from that of the ancient evils writhing just beyond what we think is reality. Time is running out for Professors Derrick LeStrand, Howard Strauss and their team of researchers as they race to hunt down a mysterious Frenchman who wields Necromantic Death Magic unlike anything they’ve seen before.

Tearing open psychological wounds from Derrick’s past, the cabalistic sorcerer is gathering ancient icons of power to pierce the Veil and bring down the only thing shielding mankind from the relentless horrors beyond.

If they fail, the only questions that will remain are who will live in servitude to the Great Old Ones and who will die…and who will supply Derrick with tacos?

Set against the backdrop of a world where H.P. Lovecraft was not a fiction writer, but a Sweep, a special operative trained to protect the collective sanity of the human race with misinformative blends of fact and fiction … where the Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual is little more than a slightly skewed Audubon Field Guide, and the monster movies you grew up with are more documentary than not.

It’s Nerdthulhu Lethal Weapon cranked to eleven.

What happens when everything comes crumbling down? Some of today’s best-selling authors take you to the dark side in this collection of eleven deadly tales.

Zombie Fallout – Mark Tufo

This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book one of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

Strain of Resistance – Michelle Bryan

I was 12 years old when the world ended. For eight years I’ve survived in this shithole once known as earth. Fighting the alien parasite that mutated most of the population into blood-thirsty freaks, while the rest of us became the lunch special on their alien menu.

Now things are changing, and not for the better. The parasite is evolving. Becoming smarter, stronger and deadlier.

Strangers – David Moody

A spate of brutal murders occur in and around the small town of Thussock. The bodies of the dead – savagely mutilated, unspeakably defiled – are piling up with terrifying speed. There are no apparent motives and no obvious connections between the victims, but the killings only began when Scott Griffiths and his family arrived in Thussock…

“In his evocation of fear and unease and the speed with which he grips you, he brings to mind old Brit horror writer James Herbert. And that is some recommendation.” —London Lite

“Moody has the power to make the most mundane and ordinary characters interesting and believable, and is reminiscent of Stephen King at his finest.” —Shadowlocked

World-Mart By Leigh M. Lane

World-Mart takes place in a not-too-distant future, one in which the collective and all-powerful entity known as “Corporate” owns and controls every aspect of society. One held in place by complacency and mediocrity.

One that could very easily come to pass . . . very soon.

What does your future look like?

A New World: Chaos – John O’Brien

This hard-hitting, action-packed series begins with Jack Walker being suddenly thrust into a world where the infrastructure which cherished Armani suits, night clubs, fast and expensive cars and watching the daily stock market are gone. Left in its place is the material world mankind built but a majority of the population has vanished; replaced by a new, savage, unrelenting, cunning, animalistic species which hunts and operates at night.

Trudge: Surviving The Apocalypse – Shawn Chesser

Unable to get ahold of Brook and Raven and unwilling to leave them at the mercy of some distant politician’s inability to hold the nation together, he begins an impossible 3,000 mile journey across a reeling United States with presumably millions of infected in his path and only one acceptable outcome: find Brook and Raven alive—or die trying.

Black Virus- Bobby Adair

Alienated in a world where he doesn’t fit in, Christian Black survives because he’s different. Then the virus came, and made the world turn different, too.

Now people are dying by the million. Food supplies are short. Riots are blazing through the streets, and Christian’s only goal is to keep his family alive. But safety lies far from the city, and just getting out will be tougher than anyone knows.

Next: Aftermath – Scott Nicholson

But as a half-mutant, Rachel’s choice isn’t as simple as mere survival—the mutant way of life might be more promising than anything humans could hope to restore. And Rachel’s next decision could tear apart her family and the entire world.

The Death of Kaylis – Jaime Johnesee

In a post apocalyptic future, Kayliss and her vultures rule the wastelands with an iron fist. Nobody’d ever had the guts to stand up to her until her sister came home. Sasha doesn’t like the person Kayliss has become and vows to stop her by any means necessary. In a world where the lawless make the rules can anyone truly make a change?

Dead Hunger – Eric A. Shelman

Something happened to the earth. Inexplicable. Not a product of man, but of nature.

Now Flex Sheridan and Gem Cardoza must do all they can to protect Flex’s six-year-old neice Trina and find ways to survive a massive outbreak that has caused most of humankind to metamorphose into the walking dead.

Return of The Phoenix – Heath Stallcup

Humanity has spent its time enjoying the peace that can only be had through blissful ignorance. For centuries, stories of things that go ‘bump’ in the night have been shared. When creatures of the night proved to be real, the best of America’s military came together to form an elite band of rapid response teams. Their mission: to keep the civilian populace safe from the monsters that go bump in the night and hide all evidence of their existence.

“Why did you turn me, Melina? Why did you take my life?”

“What are you going to do? Kill me? And here I thought we were getting along so well,” she said with a chuckle.

Blake considered the idea of destroying her there and then; how satisfying it would have been, even if that feeling would only last a moment. But, realistically, he knew that he would still be left with unanswered questions, and the prospect of Silas hunting him down. It would just prove to be more of a hindrance than anything else.

His grip relaxed and then fell from around her throat. “I don’t know why I waste so much energy despising you. Think of what I could accomplish if you didn’t burden my mind.”

Clearly angry that he had been aggressive, her slender fingers clutched his neck and threw him to the floor.

“You’re stronger than I thought you would be, but do not forget your place. It would not matter if I were merely a year older than you; every year counts. Your elders are stronger than you, even if it’s only by a sliver. If you forget that, you may become vulnerable. And in a fight between you and them, you would lose.”

“You’re attractive when you’re angry,” he said with a smirk.

With a roll of her eyes, Melina released him, got back to her feet, and then composed herself.

However disrespectful he was toward her, he had asked her a question, and it was only polite for Melina to respond.

“I was desperate, lonely, and hungry when I turned you. There was something about your eyes…something that indicated that immortality would suit you.” Her answer was simple. Blake could tell by her answer that she hadn’t put much thought into turning him. “Any other questions?”

“Have I become just what you imagined, your perfect progeny?” That, most of all, was what irked him. She had been so thoughtless, so careless with his life.

“I’m not sure. I don’t really know you, so I can’t make any assumptions. You could use a lesson in manners, though.”
